It’s another New Music Friday at rolling out, and our picks for this week include a Latin album by an American-born singer with Sengalese roots, an old project with new legs and a jam session that fuses the past and present. Get your stream on, and let us know if we missed anything.
Akon – El Negreeto
He may be of African descent, but Akon’s love of Latin culture is what inspired this album — one he told Billboard he’s wanted to do since he stormed onto the industry scene with his breakout hit, “Locked Up.” El Negreeto features none other than Pitbull, among other Latin artists, over nine tracks produced by Maffio. The songs were written in Spanish by Akon with the help of Camilo, Erika Ender, Mau & Ricky, Jon Leone and Iamchino.
Robert Glasper — F— Yo Feelings
We’ve been waiting on this, and it’s finally here. Jazz pianist and Grammy Award winner Robert Glasper is finally blessing the listening public with his highly anticipated mixtape, F— Yo Feelings. (Editor’s note: Glasper spells out the first word. We don’t.) It was born from a two-day jam session, where he invited friends to build with him in the studio. Among the awe-inspiring artists to contribute are Yasiin Bey, Herbie Hancock, YBN Cordae, Terrace Martin, Bilal, Buddy, Denzel Curry, SiR, Rapsody and more.
