On top of everything else R. Kelly is going through these days, he now has to face accusations from prosecutors that Kelly has stashed away hundreds of thousands of dollars.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Robert Sylvester Kelly, 52, is hiding thick stacks in his childhood friend’s bank account.
Prosecutors told the judge that R. Kelly has been diverting the royalties from his vast vault of musical hits to his friend’s account, enabling him to claim that he has no income and is “broke.”
Prosecutors claim they uncovered the hidden money after undergoing a thorough investigation, and believe that “the defendant’s contention that he has ‘almost no financial resources’ is misleading,” prosecutors stated in the court filing.
“In fact, the defendant continues to receive hundreds of thousands of dollars in connection with royalties he is owed for his music. The government’s investigation has revealed that earlier this year, the defendant re-directed those royalties to the bank account of a childhood friend. Regardless of where those funds are being held, however, they belong to the defendant and, at any time, the defendant can redirect those funds – and future royalty proceeds earned – to an account in his name.”
Kelly has already been indicted on a multiplicity of state and federal charges related to sexual impropriety and pedophilia in several jurisdictions, including Chicago, New York and Minnesota. There are also cases pending in the states of Michigan and Georgia.
