Why do you think that this festival, which highlights gospel artists and faith-based films and television shows, is important?
I think it is important because there is a lot of junk out there … and if you can get good, clean, solid content out there, it is necessary. … When we were growing up, our parents and older adults would guard what we [saw] and what we heard. Now, at the click of a button on your phone, you have access to anything.
What inspired you to release “HER” after your six-year hiatus?
I wanted to write a song that lifted [my wife], that made her feel important and made her feel special. I wanted other guys to take that song and use it to encourage their girl … I feel like women always get the short end of the stick, … and I feel like it is time for a man to stand up and say enough is enough. … We are waiting on these different entities to speak up for women when it starts at home and it starts in the community.
What can we expect from No Risk … No Reward?
What I am trying to encourage people to understand is if you’re not willing to take a risk, you’ll never understand what the reward could be. … It’s half love and half … gospel. … I like to just throw a bunch of songs in the pot and call the big thing gumbo.
