House committee passes historic bill to legalize marijuana on federal level

“The criminalization of marijuana has been a mistake,” Nadler added. “The racial disparity in marijuana enforcement laws only compounded this mistake with serious consequences, particularly for minority communities.”

There is a great chance of the bill passing in full, given that Democrats control the 234 seats in the House. However, there is a steeper hill to climb against the Republican-controlled Senate, whose majority leader, Mitch McConell, is staunchly opposed to the legalization of marijuana.
