What were your first experiences like in the kitchen?
Growing up in a Southern home was very much about gathering at the dinner table, a picnic or barbecue. People were legendary for their recipes. There were certain people in the community that made certain dishes better than everybody else. It was a source of pride and great meals. I learned as a young boy that the person who wielded the spoon, ruled everything. I was fortunate enough that my father was in the grocery business growing up. My grandfather had a garden in our backyard and there were chefs and cooks on both sides of my family.
