It’s Women’s History Month. What are your thoughts about influencing young girls who may be inspired by you?
I am so grateful that God has blessed me with not only a gift to share but to be a role model for young girls. … If I can do it, a girl from Oklahoma, they can do it. All it takes is determination and passion. Even when I was working at my hotel job, I had faith. That’s what it takes. You have to believe in yourself.
What’s it like working with Tyler Perry?
I’m forever indebted to him believing in me and in my talent. I’m so grateful to work with somebody who, like he says “fights for the underdog”, I feel like I was for some time. I think a lot of actors feel that way until they’re discovered. I’m always going to be grateful.
