Dr. LaKesha Legree discusses signs of depression during global health crisis

How can families stage a small intervention to get professional help for someone battling depression?

The most important thing, particularly in the minority community is as a culture, we really need to keep up with respect to checking on each other, especially checking on our seniors, our elders, our grandparents. In this time where we have this government-issued mandate, whether it’s on a state or the federal level, you’re in your house already. Whether you live alone, or whether you have a family with you, that will dictate who’s checking on you. Even if you’re in the house with a family member, everybody, don’t just retreat to your own room. Pay attention to really having some intentional interaction, and if you noticed, the interaction is lacking, or perhaps that a person’s not providing eye contact, or that their mood in general just seems down, then you might want to have an intervention.
