Director Dui Jarrod showcases New Orleans’ trans community in new series

What was the importance of that dialogue?

I wanted to capture the nature of what it was during that time. How we approached transgender women and men is much different than what the expression was back in 2005, except in the city of New Orleans. You had Big Freedia, Messy Mya, Revelation, rest in peace; you had so many different representations of femininity during that time.

I thought that was the only space during 2005 that you could really explore it, especially in the context of being an African. So, that’s why I thought we should do it in New Orleans in 2005.
