Anthony Di’Angelo Ingram Jr. credits fatherhood for making him resilient

Name one life lesson that no one taught you, but should have.

One experience for sure that I’ve had to learn through fatherhood that I wasn’t taught earlier in life is that it’s OK to show your emotion and not be seen as weak. I come from a generation where if you were to cry, you wouldn’t be seen as manly. You would be considered as not being strong. You’d have to toughen up when things got tough. That toughness would then turn into suppression. It brings stress and sickness to your mind and body. I’ve had to also learn patience and how to practice this.

Which fatherhood experiences have taught you the most about yourself?

I have learned about resiliency. There have been moments where my faith and sanity have all been tested. Through the sheer unconditional love that my children have shown me, the pure innocence and joy they possess for life has been enough to keep me going. I find myself fighting through it with my kids being my only source of fuel, but it’s the most powerful fuel and inspiration I need.
