Showtime has released the trailer  for “Supervillain: The Making of Tekashi 6ix9ine,” an upcoming docuseries following the life of the antagonistic rapper.

The three-part series is based on Rolling Stone journalist Stephen Witt’s January 2019 feature “Tekashi 6ix9ine: The Rise and Fall of a Hip-Hop Supervillain” and will chronicle his high-profile criminal past and feature an exclusive post-prison interview following his release from jail last year.

Veteran actor Giancarlo Esposito, whose extensive résumé includes works like “Breaking Bad” and Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing, narrates the series.

In February 2019, the New York native pleaded guilty to a firearms and racketeering charge and cooperated with the feds. As part of a plea agreement, he testified against members of his crew and gang, Brooklyn’s Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods. In return for his testimony, he was given less than two years and was released last April after COVID-19 rampaged through the prison system.

“We live in an attention economy. A digital culture that can empower people with no talent or morals to become famous. This series is bigger than 6ix9ine. It’s a cautionary tale about manufactured celebrity and how when our society allows supervillains to rise, the collateral damage can be massive. In the era of Trump and the Jan. 6 insurrection, understanding and analyzing these stories is extremely important,” said the director, Karam Gill, in a statement.

“Supervillain: The Making of Tekashi 6ix9ine” premieres on Sunday, Feb. 21, at 10 p.m. EST. New episodes will air every Sunday through March 7, and the entire three-part docuseries will be available to download and watch on demand on Showtime and its various partner platforms on Feb. 21.
