Steve Harvey is a jack of all trades in the Hollywood arena and now the comedian, actor and game show host is adding judge to his extensive repertoire. The “Family Feud” host has been tapped by ABC to host an upcoming court series with a working title of “Judge Steve Harvey.” According to Variety, the network has ordered 10 episodes of the one-hour “Courtroom comedy series” which will welcome real-life people hashing out their drama ranging from family disputes and sour friendships to small claims court disputes.
The King of Comedy funnyman will have the final decision and verdict as “Steve plays by his own rules basing his courtroom on his own life experiences and some good old common sense,” according to ABC. Casting is currently underway for the show which is looking “nationwide for roommates, friends, siblings, neighbors, co-workers and more that have humor, heart and passion who are ready to settle their case by a legendary celebrity.”
As a perk, all awards and judgements will be paid by the production company MysticArt Pictures and not by the defendant. “Judge Steve Harvey” is expected to hit the network in 2022.
Harvey’s series on Facebook Watch, “Steve on Watch,” was also renewed in March as the social medial platform ordered 20 more weeks of the series. Returning later this year, the series is also set to return to taping in front of a live audience where local guidelines allow. The most recent season was filmed at Harvey’s home in a specially constructed studio to adapt to filming during the Covid-19 pandemic. The production featured a live virtual audience streaming in from all over the country, interacting with Harvey throughout the show. Harvey interviewed guests in his driveway with a live audience.
“I’m looking forward to the next season of ‘Steve on Watch.’ Connection has played an important role in our lives over the past year and Facebook Watch is a great place to share stories and connect with fans on a global level. No show is ever the same and nothing makes me happier than sharing my take on things,” Harvey told Deadline.
“Steve On Watch” features Harvey giving his hilarious and insightful take “on the everyday issues affecting his audience” along with interviews of film, TV and music stars. Previous guests have included Kandi Burress, Gabrielle Union, Stephen Curry and Keenan Thompson.
