K. Ross, a native of Ypsilanti, Michigan, is an accomplished fine artist. After 18 successful years on the Chicago art scene, he relocated to Atlanta in 2019 for artistic inspiration influenced by southern culture. His much sought-after abstract paintings reflect his passion for creating “wow moments” in life. He joins rolling out to discuss his journey and spread the message of his upcoming feature exhibit, the K. Ross Original Art Experience at Lenox Square in Atlanta on Saturday, Aug. 28.
When did you become interested in art?
I first discovered my artistic interest as a kid at 15 years old while in high school at Ypsilanti High in Michigan. In 2001 I decided to pursue art professionally, as the artist K.Ross while living in Chicago.
Who inspired you to pursue your visual arts?
GL Smothers (Chicago Artist), Munson Steed (rolling out founder and publisher), Jean-Michael Basquiat, Jackson Pollock, and Aunt Jean Kenedy.
Freshman mistakes are common when you are learning. What were the two you made in your first collection/project?
I was too hard on myself, [I was] not confident in my artistic expression. [I thought] everything had to be perfect. Now, everything is to my liking … not perfect.
How do you want to impact the culture with your creativity and design?
By inspiring others to express and embrace their creativity that inspires the next generation … keep empowering others.
