Jordan Brand chairman Larry Miller reveals he killed a man when he was 16

After his release from prison, Miller’s resume included tenures as the vice president of Nike in 1997, becoming president of the Jordan brand from 1999 to 2006, as well working with the Portland Trailblazers in their front office, and never discussed his crime. Miller just revealed the news to Nike founder Phil Knight, NBA commissioner Adam Silver and Michael Jordan prior to the release of the SI article on Oct. 13.

“I was definitely nervous about sharing with him, just because I have so much respect and love for MJ,” he said of breaking the news to Jordan.

Despite the fears, Miller added that writing the book and telling his story was a “freeing exercise.”

“I have the freedom now to be me.”

He also added to SI that he’s been “blown away by how positive the response has been,” since his revelation.

Miller says his memoir is a cautionary tale but also inspires hope and redemption. Jump: My Secret Journey From the Streets to the Boardroom, is scheduled to be released on Jan. 18, 2022, through William Marrow.
