It’s been less than a week since William “Roddie” Bryan and father and son Greg and Travis McMichael were convicted of murdering Ahmaud Arbery and it appears that one of them needs a little help with his appeal fund. As previously reported, attorneys for all three men stated they planned to file appeals.

According to the “Savannah Morning News,” Bryan’s fiancée Amy Elrod created a GoFundMe page to raise money for legal costs associated with his appeal. A goal of $300K was set for the fundraiser which had only amassed about $700 before it was deleted. Three other fundraisers were also found on the site created for Bryan and were shut down because GoFundMe prohibits raising money for the legal defense of a violent crime.

Bryan’s attorney, Kevin Gough, posted one of Bryant’s money raising campaigns on his Facebook page as well, but stated that the funds were not for him.

“Shame on GoFundMe for cancelling Roddie’s fundraiser for his appeal. Friends and family of Roddie Bryan have set up a new account online, at Spotfund, to fund what are likely to be considerable legal costs associated with his appeal. The money is NOT for me. Not a penny. Please be generous,” Gough posted on Facebook.

Elrod set up the new account on Spotfund which reads:

“I am the fiancé of William “Roddie” Bryan, the man that was found guilty of the murder of Ahmaud Arbery along with the McMichaels in Glynn County, Brunswick, Ga. Roddie was not armed and videoed the shooting which he turned over on the scene to the 1st officer. We need your help to appeal his case. Anything you can share is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help and prayers. If you have negative comments please find a different page as they will be deleted.”

Bryan and the McMichaels are currently awaiting a sentencing date. They will also answer to federal hate crimes charges when jury selection for that trial begins on Feb. 7, 2022.
