If you were talking to some of the Black and Latino Americans looking for work, what are the top three or four industries that you want them to really lean into?
Well, the first thing I’d say is make sure you get connected to the American job centers. Don’t wait for the jobs to come to you, because unfortunately they’re not going to. No one’s going to knock on anyone’s door. There’s money in there for job training, resume building, and workforce development. We have 2400 centers across the country and the Department of Labor partners with these different centers.
Don’t be afraid to make sure you connect to local officials looking for better opportunities. We have to make sure, if nothing else happens after the pandemic, people are stronger, meaning they’re in better situations. The President’s “Build Back Better” campaign was a slogan in the beginning. It turned into a bill, but needs to come back stronger. Even without regard to the pandemic, he wants to create opportunities.
We need to make sure that low-wage earners and low-income families in our country are doing better. That’s why I push child tax credits and why I pulled for the bipartisan infrastructure law. He’s making investments in job training. The President and the Vice President want to make sure that people have opportunities to get into [the] middle class.
