His most popular song on YouTube, with over 270,000 views, is “M.I.A.M.I (Murder Is A Major Issue).” Wood offered up his condolences before addressing the general violence witnessed time after time in hip-hop.
“I ain’t going to tell anyone to change their lyrics or anything or what they’re rapping about, but at a certain point, we as Black men have to move differently,” Wood said. “It’s messed up in our community how we do ourselves, and that’s one of the biggest things that holds us back.”
Wood made a plea for envy to cease.
“We have to get to the point where we stop sitting here being envious of somebody else, jealous of what this person doing, what they’re talking about, trying to check them,” Wood said. “All of this is wicked and spiritual. For somebody to do anything to somebody else, I don’t know what the situation is with [Wavy Navy Pooh] specifically, but generally across the board. If it ain’t a situation where you have to defend your own life because somebody is attacking you directly … what are we doing? We don’t need to be killing ourselves, man.”
