Rev. Jamal Bryant shares encouraging words to motivate the spirit

Who is your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration is my dad, Bishop John Richard Bryant. He has modeled  integrity and character for me. There is an old R&B song, “No Matter How High I Get I Will Still be Looking Up to You.” So I’m grateful that my father has modeled for me the sacredness of the priesthood after the benediction not about how it is that he preached but how it is that he lived I am grateful that my dad is 78, alive, healthy and strong. I hope that I’m living to make him proud.

Who are your favorite biblical figures?
Moses, because Moses failed. He thought it was a secret but everybody knew about it, and God still helped him lead. That’s the story of my life. I am God’s one-way model for what grace is supposed to look like. There’s no way, shape or form that [I am] qualified to be in this position. But under my name and on my tombstone will have to be written grace was sufficient.

What is your favorite story in the Bible that addresses health and healing?
When the Lord said to the children of Israel “and none of these diseases will fall on you.” [Deuteronomy 7:15]. When you look at the diet of Black people, when you look at the absence of healthcare, absence of insurance, when you look at environmental racism, when you look at toxic dumping, when we’re able to look back and say our greatest plight is asthma, we are a blessed people. God has blessed us in an amazing way and I stand on by his stripes with you.
