What was one of the first things that kind of clicked in you, like this is what I’m going to do?
I don’t know if I ever had one of those moments. Like, this is what I was gonna do. I loved, you know, growing up as a kid, just sitting in [the] living room and singing. My mother had a piano up there. And I would spend all night just singing and playing Boyz II Men and Backstreet Boys, whatever else, Brian McKnight. But still even then, like, I did not like the spotlight. So I didn’t expect to actually do that [singing].
What advice would you give a kid trying to become a performer?
Be good. That’s the first thing. You know, again, I was playing music and singing in my living room for nobody for a long time. And I was getting good at the craft for a long time. The craft, not the being famous part. Unfortunately, that’s what everybody’s mind goes to when they say “I want to be a singer.” What they’re really saying is “I want to be famous and rich for it.” When there’s so many things in between.
Can you share any future projects?
Yeah, I can’t share too much. But we just trust me that as soon as this is over, I’m clicking out of the Zoom app, and I’m going to Pro Tools, mixing a record right now.
