The stars were out at one HBCU graduation over 2022 Mother’s Day weekend.
Howard University’s May 7 celebration hosted alumna Taraji P. Henson as this year’s commencement speaker. Also on the stage with Henson was the University’s Dean of Fine Arts Phylicia Rashad. Rashad and University President Wayne A. l. Frederick presented the degrees to this year’s arts graduates, which included Hollywood star Anthony Anderson. Anderson announced plans to complete his education from Howard in 2018 with his son Nathan, and while his son is rumored to have transferred from the school, Anderson stayed and finished his classes as planned.
“Upon the recommendation of the dean and faculty by virtue of the authority invested by me, and that includes you, too, Anthony Anderson,” Frederick said. “By the board of trustees and the board of the university, I do now bestow upon you your degree.”
Also in attendance at the ceremony were Yolanda Adams, Common, Travis Scott and Will Packer. Scott’s sister also graduated, while Common’s daughter graduated with a law degree. Adams’ daughter also graduated from the Fine Arts program, with Anderson.
