In December 2021, Nick Cannon shared with the world that he and Alyssa Scott’s 5-month-old son, Zen, died after a battle with brain cancer. A year later, Cannon is now reflecting on the anniversary of his passing.

On Dec. 5, Cannon wrote a long letter in honor of his late son on Instagram.

“Physically, I’m definitely on the mend but mentally and spiritually I’m broken,” Cannon wrote in the caption. “Been tossing and turning all night, and as much as I know I need rest, last night I couldn’t sleep at all. I can’t believe it’s been a year already since the toughest day of my life occurred. Such a painful anniversary.”

“Losing a child has to be the heaviest, most dark and depressive experience that I will never get over,” Cannon continued. “A mixture of guilt, pain, and sorrow is what I suppress daily.”

Cannon recently shared that he and Scott and expecting another baby together, and in the post, he says “in the midst of one of the most challenging seasons” of his life but was encouraged by one of his spiritual leaders that “all of this will only make me stronger, and to not lean on my own understanding but to rely on the the peace that surpasses all.”
