“When it comes to beauty, it’s always been us,” Knowles-Lawson narrates in the Instagram video posted by SheaMoisture.
The series features interviews with Black women who have contributed significantly to their respective industries. Some women featured include Misty Copeland, the first Black principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre; Stacey Abrams, the former Georgia House minority leader and founder of the voting rights organization Fair Fight Action; and Amanda Gorman, the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history.
In an interview with Black Enterprise, Knowles-Lawson spoke about the inspiration for the series, citing the lack of recognition of Black women and their contributions to society. She explained that she wanted to create a space where Black women could share their stories and inspire others.
Knowles-Lawson has long been an advocate for empowering Black women. She has been involved in numerous charitable organizations and has used her influence to promote the visibility of Black women in the entertainment industry.
