Deborah Joy Winans begins her horror journey on season 3 of ‘Terror Lake Drive’

Deborah Joy Winans shares what to expect from the new season

Terror Lake Drive: Summer Purge” takes place five years after the second installment, as a new family mysteriously inherits a luxury vacation home on Lake Levi, luring them to the grounds previously known as the haunted Freeman Lake.

Actress Deborah Joy Winans spoke with rolling out about what to expect from her character, Janice DuVernay.

What can viewers expect from the new season?

It centers on this family, Janice DuVernay, and her children. She’s just a woman trying to take care of her family to make ends meet. She’s a teacher, and they’ve had a recent loss. So in discovering how they come into this inheritance of this wonderful lake house and discovering their history, you can expect things to get shaken up a little bit. You can expect to see a mama bear, which I can fully understand because having a new baby myself. I’m like, “What happened to my child? Where did that scratch come from?” We need to know everything. You can expect a mom to show up, and you can expect a family to understand their legacy. You can expect people to understand their worth and what they bring — and you can expect some twists and turns and suspense.

How does the change in scenery work for you and your character?

The inheritance just feels like it’s out of nowhere, and because things have happened to Janice throughout her life that [have] been hard to manage, she does not get her expectations up. She’s just like “All that glitters is not gold. Y’all trying to count stuff we ain’t even got yet. Let’s figure out what this is.” When she gets there, I think she’s a bit troubled because [she’s feeling like], “Why have I been living paycheck to paycheck? Why have I been struggling to make ends meet for my children for my family, and my grandfather had all of this? What is the reasoning behind us not being able to have partaken in this way sooner than now?” I think she’s a bit troubled at what this life is looking like, and as things begin to sort of unravel and show themselves, she recognizes that this is a much deeper circumstance than an inheritance. This is a legacy. This is something that my people may have fought and bled for, and this is much bigger than just a home.
