Jerry Rice details his greatest decision of all time

Legendary wide receiver opens up about his HBCU experience

Jerry Rice is considered many things.

The HBCU product and “Dancing With the Stars” fierce competitor is mostly known for being the greatest wide receiver of all time. On Feb. 7, Rice delivered the Super Bowl LVIII Vince Lombardi trophy to the Super Bowl experience area for fans in Las Vegas. The delivery was sponsored by FedEx, and Mississippi Valley State student Chanelle Houston accompanied him on the way to deliver the trophy for display and for the fans to take pictures with. FedEx has offered initiatives to assist HBCUs in recent years — and in this case, it was a student from Rice’s former college.

After the presentation, Rice spoke to rolling out about his HBCU and other outlets about the trophy.

What makes Mississippi Valley State the GOAT HBCU?

I would say the reason why is that when you’ve got certain companies like FedEx, we want some of these other companies to step up, too. [FedEx] is doing a great job with HBCUs — and I wouldn’t change it for anything, I’ll be honest with you. I am really happy that I went to an HBCU because I got a chance to see people of my color, and … to watch the Battle of the Bands. I got to wear that uniform of the Delta Devils. The green and that red — it’s just something I’ll never forget.

What was your reaction to Travis Kelce breaking your postseason receiving yards record?

With Travis Kelce, I wish him the best. Congratulations on everything — but the thing is, if he had a big game this upcoming Sunday [against Rice’s former team, the San Francisco 49ers], it might not work. We’ve got to somehow stop Travis Kelce.
