Braxton is the founder and creator of Brax3D, an LED digital sign service that comes with an array of options such as sports and fashion logos. Braxton spoke with rolling out about his business, showed some of his favorite designs, and gave advice to other Black-owned businesses looking to sell their products.
What inspired you to start making signs?
I made myself a sign, and people were like, “Why don’t you sell that?” Besides sneaker events, I do a lot of small business expos [and] people send me their logos. [We] make it happen that way.
What have you learned about the business of creating?
The biggest thing is to keep track of your books. It’ll become a headache if you wait too long.
What’s the process of creating the signs?
It’s burnt wood, so I use laser-cutting. I design it in my program, [and] I install all the lighting and circuitry myself.
What advice would you give people trying to sell their work?
My biggest advice is to keep going. I know it sounds cliche, but a lot of people just give up. [Even I] started on the floor. You [have] to start from somewhere. Nobody starts from the top, so [even] if you start from the bottom, you’ll make it.
