Candace Owens‘ latest round of drama includes former CNN anchor Don Lemon. The political commentator who is infamous for her unfiltered and outrageously conservative leanings had a virtual debate with Lemon, who is a gay man with more liberal opinions.
Owens previously said Americans have allowed the English language to be redefined by “perverts.” A direct example she used was the word “faggot” The word once meant “a bundle of sticks,” and now it is viewed as a slur against homosexuals.
“I said, ‘We should not let perverts dictate our language,'” Owens said. “And then, bizarrely, Don Lemon asked me if I wanted to call him the f-word.”
A clip then plays of the exchange.
Lemon made the case that words evolve with time.
“So, you would never call me a faggot to my face, right?” Lemon asked.
“Why would I just randomly call you a faggot?” Owens responded. “That seems like an absurd ‘no.’ … I’m a 35-year-old mother. I don’t go around being like, ‘Hey, you’re a faggot.’ I’m not 18 years old. I’m not calling people names, period. I’m not going up to a fat person calling them names. It just seems like an absurd thing going around, pointing and calling people names.”
Lemon then asked if Owens uses the n-word, and she said, “No.”
Another part of the interview that went viral was when Lemon asked Owens what she thought of his same-sex marriage.
“It’s a sin,” Owens said.
“You think it’s a sin? So you think I’m sinful?” Lemon asked Owens.
“Yes, you’re sinning,” Owens said. “You are in a sinful relationship. I actually don’t believe marriage can be between two men.”
