TWEF honors 14 visionary men at ‘Men Who EmpowerHer’ event

August 17, 2024 | Atlanta, GA – The Texas Women’s Empowerment Foundation (TWEF) hosted the “Men Who EmpowerHer” event at the Andrew & Walter Young Family YMCA in Atlanta, Georgia, honoring 14 influential business leaders and entrepreneurs. The event was held as, a momentous occasion that highlighted the contributions of men who empower, support, and uplift purpose-driven women across the nation.

The honorees were carefully selected from a national pool of candidates who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to championing women’s empowerment in their respective fields. Among the honorees were leaders from business, healthcare, education, and civic engagement, including:


  1. Carl Hill – Coca-Cola UNITED, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Director  
  2. Micheal Levesque – Executive Director, Morehouse College National Alumni Association  
  3. Dr. Victor Blake, MD, MTS, FACP – Professor of Medicine  
  4. Munson Steed – CEO, Rolling Out Magazine  
  5. Terry Harps – CEO, Global Concessions  
  6. Andre Greenwood – CEO, Aetna Better Health of Georgia  
  7. Mayor Andre Dickens – Mayor of Atlanta, Georgia  
  8. Kent Metlock – Metlock Associates  
  9. Dr. Walter Young – Dentist and Civil Rights Activist  
  10. Ambassador Andrew Young  
  11. Dr. Joseph Hoffman – Retired Orthopedic Surgeon  
  12. Commissioner Chair Rob Pitts – Chairman, Fulton County Board of Commissioners  
  13. Mack Wilbourn – Franchise Entrepreneur  

Distinguished guests included Former Mayor of Atlanta Shirley Franklin, City Council Members Michael Julian Bond, Marci Overstreet, and Andrea Boone, Mrs. Billye Aaron, YMCA President/CEO Lauren Koontz, and Young YMCA Board of Directors Co-Chair Louise Garcia.

Dr. Walter Young, a civil rights activist and dental health advocate, was honored for his lifelong contributions to his community, the city of Atlanta, and his family’s legacy of service. Dr. Young has been an active leader in numerous civic and community programs, including the establishment of dental health programs in schools and churches throughout the Atlanta area. The Southwest YMCA in Atlanta was named in honor of Dr. Walter Young and his brother, Ambassador Andrew Young, in 2004.


TWEF Founder, Dr. Deavra Daughtry, praised the honorees, stating, “We hosted the Men Who EmpowerHer event to shine a light on these incredible men who have made it their mission to uplift and support empowered, purpose-driven women. Their commitment to gender equality and community empowerment is inspiring and impactful. We are especially thrilled to honor Dr. Walter Young on his 90th birthday for his lifelong dedication to service and excellence in both healthcare and civil rights.”
