With music mogul Sean Combs sitting in prison after being arrested on Monday evening in New York City and pleading not guilty in court to charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution and having his bail denied yesterday, it is being reported that he will appeal that decision in court today. The man who will appeal that decision is Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, but who is he?
Diddy retained Agnifilo, who owns Agnifilo Law Group. Agnifilo graduated from Connecticut College in 1986 and Brooklyn Law School four years later.
He worked for the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey from 1998 to July 2006. He supervised assistant United States attorneys “in investigations into murder, money laundering, conspiracy, extortion, drug trafficking, and other offenses committed by transnational criminal organizations.” He also worked on the organized crime task force.
Agnifilo, who turned 60 last month, has been featured on CNN and TMZ, and, before being hired by Diddy, his clients were featured in the New York Times and the New York Post. According to his website, “Marc has an active and robust criminal practice representing clients in high-profile, high-stakes matters in many of the most consequential criminal cases of the last two decades.” This, in terms of mainstream media coverage, is his most high-profile case yet.
“He has represented clients (working with local counsel) on matters charged by the governments of Italy, Switzerland, Romania, Bulgaria, and Kyrgyzstan, as well as investigations in several other countries,” notes his website.
Agnifilo appeared to be a pro in front of numerous national and local reporters and cameras as he spoke about Diddy’s bail denial despite a $50M bail package reportedly being offered.
His wife, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, joined the firm in 2021 after an extensive career as an attorney that saw her work with former New York City mayor and billionaire Michael Bloomberg.
If Diddy is to receive bail, it will be because Marc Agnifilo convinced a judge that Sean Combs deserves to be a free man to combat the charges that could land him in federal prison for decades.
