Mariah The Scientist was the halftime performer during last night’s game against the Phoenix Suns and she absolutely ripped it. The Hawks also pulled out the win and Trae Young scored 43 points, so State Farm Arena was rocking the entire night. Mariah The Scientist went through renditions of her hit songs like “Stone Cold,” “Always N Forever,” and “Spread Thin.” Rolling Out caught up with her post-performance to play a game of “What Should I Listen To?” and find out a little bit more about her.
Why did you want to be a scientist?
I just love science. I’m obsessed with science even now. I want to go back to school, but this sounds like a lot, but I think I want a double major in biology and engineering. But I don’t know if I have a skill set for the engineering. Like, you know, it’s very mathematical.
Which song do you prefer? “Always N Forever” or “Spread Thin”?
It depends. I think “Spread Thin.” And I’ll tell you why. Because Lil Baby never comes to perform “Always N Forever” with me. So forget that song.
How did you get one of the biggest artists in the world, Lil Baby, on one of your first singles?
When I heard the beat, I was like, “Oh, my gosh. He would slide on this beat. I need him on this song.” And everybody was like, “You’re not getting Lil Baby on the song. Nobody knows who you are. It’s not going to happen.” I was like, “It’s going to happen.” So it happened. Love that. Thanks to him for doing it. But yeah, I’m relentless.
What is your favorite thing about performing in your hometown?
I just feel like I’ve been to so many games and seen plenty of halftime performances probably, and. And I just feel like, wow, I can’t believe that they asked me to do it! That’s lit.
What should I listen to …
If I just got my heart broken?
“2 U.”
If I want to get lit at the club or get drunk?
“Walked In.”
If I just got promoted or I just got a bag today?
“Stone Cold.”
