The cultural phenomenon in the personage of Angel Reese experienced the highs and lows of elite athletic competition this past week.

The “Bayou Barbie” was awarded the first-ever Defensive Player of the Year Award following the inaugural Unrivaled league’s regular season. However, harsh reality came crashing down on her glorious moment as Reese may have sustained a season-ending injury.

Reese, 22, is ruled out of the Unrivaled semifinal playoff game with an injury to her left wrist. It is the same wrist that prematurely ended her WNBA season and required surgery.

Unrivaled officials did not say if Angel Reese’s season is over

No word if Reese will be able to play in the championship game should her team advance. The Finals will be played on Monday evening.

Her compatriots on the Rose will take on the Laces on Sunday night, March 16 on TNT. The Lunar Owls will match up against the Vinyl in the second semifinal contest.

Reese seemed to have sustained the injury in the second quarter of her regular-season finale on Monday. Reese was hit on that surgically-repaired wrist after securing a rebound. On the Rose’s next offensive possession, she made a gentle shot off the backboard but immediately grabbed her left wrist after the play was done. She continued grabbing at her wrist before leaving the game and never returning.

Reese told her fans on her X account that the surgery was successful back in September but she reaggravated it.

Angel Reese hints this could be a career-threatening injury

“Long term, I literally could have not played anymore because this is a very hard place to heal because the blood flow is little to none,” she said, according to ESPN.

In another post, she thanked her Maker for getting her through adversities. “God, thank you for getting me through the highs & lows!  Be where your feet are & allow yourself growth,” she penned.

The Chicago Sky forward has showcased improvement on her offensive game, which was subjected to nonstop ridicule by mostly Caitlin Clark fans. Reese also led the Unrivaled League with a 12.1 rebounding average. She recorded eight double-doubles, including the first 20-20 game in Unrivaled history when she posted a 22-point, 21-rebound masterpiece to give the Lunar Owls their only defeat of the season.
