The international duo Phonte and Nicolay (also known as The Foreign Exchange) visited Chicago recently for an amazing performance at The Promontory. The sold out performance benefited the Betty Shabazz International Charter School.
The house was jam-packed for this worthy cause. DJ Kwest_on set the stage working the ones and twos. Mario Smith, the “Mayor of Hyde Park,” had the honor of introducing The Foreign Exchange to the audience.
Band members entered the stage solo, so by the time Phonte hit the stage there was a swell of energy in the audience and the show took off. Phonte was his usual hilarious self and the crowd ate it up. But, when it came to singing he was all business and the audience sang along with every word. The crowd of 200 plus were on their feet by the end of the night feeling good and enjoying the vibe.
The summer has been extremely temperamental in Chicago this year, but the shows at the Promontory have been hot. Here’s hoping they continue that winning streak.
