Powerful Black Women Not on ‘The Real Housewives of New York’

“The Real Housewives of New York City” is back for season five with new cast members. Bravo has released the official cast’s photos and bios, including three new faces to replace former “housewives” Jill Zarin, Kelly Bensimon, Alex McCord and Cindy Barshop.

Did you see what I saw on the cast photo? That’s right, the only black in the photo are the dresses and gowns the ladies are wearing. Returning cast members Sonja Morgan, Ramona Singer, and LuAnn de Lesseps are being joined by Aviva Drescher, Carole Radziwill and Heather Thomson; none of whom are women of color.

Is it just me, or does someone else agree that there are enough black women in the big city, whether they are full-time residents or transplants, who could’ve filled the cast vacancies?

They fit the profile “a group of wealthy Manhattan housewives balance their careers, friendships and home lives,” and then some, don’t you agree? Especially considering that the term “housewife” is used so loosely.

Their lifestyles are fabulous and their social calendars are enviable. Trust. These women are quite polished and posh enough to garner great ratings. That’s why we’ve decided to remix the entire cast by sprinkling in some brown sugar.
