Former Cash Money Records emcee Christopher “B.G.” Dorsey is in hot water with the law after a federal grand jury indicted the rapper on gun and conspiracy charges May 19.
According to nola.com, U.S. Attorney Jim Letten says that Dorsey, 30, has been charged with two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice.
The charges stem from a November 2009 traffic stop in East New Orleans when Dorsey was arrested along with two other men, Demounde Pollard, 19, and Jerod Fedison, 29, after police found three weapons, along with loaded magazines and two extended clips in the vehicle. Two of the weapons had been previously reported stolen.
According to federal prosecutors, Dorsey, already a convicted felon, allegedly conspired with the Pollard and Fedison to convince a fourth individual, who was also in the car, to claim ownership of the guns. Dorsey allegedly went as far as to obstruct justice by “inducing Demounde Pollard to sign a false affidavit attesting that Dorsey did not possess three firearms on Nov. 3, 2009,” according to the indictment.
Both Pollard and Fedison have pleaded guilty in federal court and are awaiting sentencing.
According to Letten’s office, if Dorsey is convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on the gun charges and up to 20 years and a $250,000 fine on the conspiracy charge.
Dorsey is best known for his 1999 hit “Bling Bling,” which ushered the catchy phrase into pop culture history. Dorsey was also a member of the group the Hot Boys along with longtime collaborators Lil Wayne and Juvenile.
