G.O.O.D. Music's 'Cruel Summer': Illuminati, Blasphemy or Self-Empowerment?

G.O.O.D. Music’s Cruel Summer was officially released this week,  and any person who knows the basics regarding music industry may have some questions about their lyrical intent.

With Kanye West leading the parade, Cruel Summer features R. Kelly, Jay-Z, The Dream, Mase, and the entire G.O.O.D. Music family.

There’s also lot of heavy weight name dropping and hood reminiscing that we can’t prove one way or the other, but in this new age of hip-hop, all of that is expected. There’s also a lot of talk about the Illuminati on this album along with self promotion from a few self-proclaimed gods. Songs like “New God Flow” and “The Morning” gave listeners a lot to converse about, when it comes to industry conspiracy theories.  As we continue down this road of unexpected and seemingly unwarranted success, we must examine our viewpoints.

These men may consider themselves industry gods, daring obstacles to keep them from achieving their dreams.  Kanye West and Jay-Z  have attained unparalleled success, though many would like to call it witchcraft, have we ever considered considered that they are privy to information that the rest of aren’t?

Cruel Summer has been slowly meted out to the public, with snippets released less than a week before it’s full release.  No matter which way you look at it or listen to it, the project itself is a talented piece of work in which every artist plays their respective role in the hip-hop symphony.

Once the new cd has run it’s course a bit, skeptics will begin pulling each verse apart an analyze it, robbing us of the opportunity to use this album as a platform to invoke positive thoughts about ourselves, our community, and the possibilities we can create for ourselves in the current world.
