Last night the industry came out to support the BET Music Matters monthly showcase at S.O.B.s hosted by Buttahman and with special co-host Sarah Jakes, daughter of Bishop TD Jakes. The show opened with a surprise appearance by Janelle Monae there to introduce her artist Roman GianArthur. After year’s of working behind the scenes, Roman took center stage with his own music a funky fusion of Aloe Blacc, Gary Clarke Jr. and a bit of bossa nova.
Halley Small was up next, followed by Gospel singer Johnathan McReynolds, Kel Spencer and Sonny Carson. The evening ended with a performance by Amina BuddaFly of VH1’s Love & Hip Hop New York. Peter Gunz was on hand to show support and later joined her on stage to perform. Also in attendance Lyor Cohen, Freeway, BET Music Matters artist Jessica Betts and more.
