The latest offering in Spike Lee’s Chronicles of Brooklyn series: Red Hook Summer premiered on Monday, Aug. 6 in New York and attracted a star-studded crowd, including BET’s Debra Lee, Mona Scott-Young of “Love & Hip Hop” fame, Gayle King, Mike Tyson, Laila Ali and others.
Jules Brown plays a young boy named Flik Royale from Atlanta who travels to Brooklyn to spend the summer with his deeply religious grandfather, Bishop Enoch Rouse (played by Clarke Peters). Going to the Red Hook housing projects is like traveling to a foreign land, away from the comforts of Flik’s middle-class upbringing.
The film opens Aug. 10 in New York City and nationwide on Aug. 24, 2012. (photos by Dave Goodson)
