Wanda Sykes and Mike Epps are joining forces for a new sitcom.
The two comedy powerhouses will appear in “The Upshaws,” a new multi-cam sitcom for Netflix. The series centers on the working-class Upshaw family. Making their home in Indiana, the Upshaws are trying to make it work without the blueprints to do so.
In addition to starring in the series, Sykes will serve as co-showrunner alongside Regina Hicks (“Insecure,” “Girlfriends”). Epps will split his time between acting and executive producing the series with Dan Spilo, Page Hurwitz and Niles Kirchner.
It’s been a banner year for both Wanda Sykes and Mike Epps. Sykes’ latest comedy special, “Not Normal” is nominated for two Emmys. Sykes will also return to the ABC hit series “Black-ish.”
“Not Normal” is Syke’s first special for Netflix. Epps’ released his Netflix special, “Only One Mike,” in June. Additionally, Epps will star alongside Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes in the feature film Dolemite is My Name.
Sykes will also join the DC animated series “Harley Quinn” as the voice of Queen of Fables this fall. “Harley Quinn” is scheduled for release in October. The series will be available on the DC Universe subscription service.
