The apple apparently doesn’t fall far from the tree in the Bonds family. Nikolai Lamar Bonds, 20, the son of former San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds was charged Thursday with battery and other misdemeanors stemming from a slugfest with his mother.

He faces as long as two years in jail if convicted of all counts, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Young bonds apparently flew into a fit of rage over being questioned about Sun Bonds’ missing jewelry, and the altercation escalated to World Series proportions. It was reported that Bonds hurled a doorknob at his mother, spit in her face, and wouldn’t allow her to leave the home they share in Menlo Park, Calif. The incident happened on Dec. 5.

“She did not accuse him of it, but she was questioning whether his friends did it,” said Steve Wagstaffe, chief deputy district attorney in San Mateo County. “That’s what started the disturbance. There was yelling, screaming. She started crying.”

Sun Bonds, Barry Bonds’ ex-wife, managed to telephone a friend, who called police. Nikolai allegedly threatened the responding officers, but later apologized.

The other counts Bonds will face include false imprisonment, vandalism and threatening and obstructing police. No bats were used in the incident.
