Ludacris provided Major League Baseball and the Atlanta Braves with a dose of hip-hop during his performance after the Braves defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in the Civil Rights Game on Saturday, May 14.
For the first hip-hop concert at the Braves’ Turner Field, Ludacris, backed by a three-man band and a deejay, performed an hour’s worth of hits from his extensive catalog. With Lil Fate as his hype man, Ludacris entered the stage to thunderous cheers as he rapped “Number 1 Spot.” After Ludacris interacted with the crowd a bit, Miami-based DJ Khaled joined him on stage as they both performed “All I Do Is Win.”
Fan favorites included “Money Maker,” “Move B****” and “How Low.” Civil Rights icon Jesse Jackson later joined Ludacris on stage and waved to those in attendance. Ludacris urged the crowd to stand up for Jackson because “He stood up for us.” Ludacris then performed his hit, “Stand Up.”
Jermaine Dupri hit the stage and helped Ludacris close out his show by rapping the crowd favorite, “Welcome To Atlanta.”
Major League Baseball and the Atlanta Braves did an admirable job of paying homage to the Civil Rights movement. The annual Civil Rights Game was implemented to honor and draw attention to the importance of diversity. –amir shaw
