NASCAR, Partners Team Up to Support Black and Hispanic Colleges and Universities

Diversity Motorsports and the Mary McCloud Bethune Legacy Preservation Institution have partnered with Racing for Education (RFE) —  a campaign to provide supplemental funding for schools and students. The initiative was conceived using the dynamic platform of NASCAR motor racing by RFE’s CEO Terrance Cox. The program reaches both secondary and college and university students.

During a recent announcement in the press conference room at Daytona International Speedway, RFE and NASCAR Nationwide Racing Team jointly introduced the Race for Education Racing Team and the organization’s mission. Mike Bliss will drive the #19 Racing for Education signature race car in its inaugural season in NASCAR’s Nationwide Series. RFE also introduced its first Rising Star Program recipient, 11-year-old Matt Murphy IV. A junior race car driver and future Racing for Education driver, Murphy’s career in racing began at the age of 6 with his grandfather, Clarence “Mr. C” Millner, a former winner in the modified 470 stock car division.

Racing for Education includes experts in the fields of education, diversity and the motorsports industry. RFE’s initiative began with a focus on historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU). RFE’s goal is to expand its support of these higher learning institutions that provide quality education without regard to race, creed, color, nationality, religion or any other demographic. –a. robinson
