After a years-long departure from primetime television, actor-comedian Cedric the Entertainer is set to make his return in a new spin-off from the hit TV Land show, “Hot In Cleveland.”
According to deadline.com, the planned spin-off, which stars Cedric as a minister, will be introduced this summer during multiple episodes of the second season of “Hot In Cleveland,” a show which helped to reinvigorate the career of fellow veteran actress Betty White.
As stated in a release from TV Land about the new show, “the untitled series is contingent upon the pilot script, which will be co-written by Cedric and Suzanne Martin [‘Hot’s’ creator and executive producer].”
Martin will also take on the role of executive producer for the as-yet-untitled show alongside fellow “Hot In Cleveland” executive producers Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner of Hazy Mills Prods.
According to TV Land’s EVP of development and original programming, Keith Cox, Cedric and Martin are the perfect pair to helm the new comedy series.
“Coupling Cedric’s comedic timing with Suzanne’s incredible writing skills will definitely create magic for the network,” said Cox.
After rising to fame on the hit “The Steve Harvey Show” back in the late ’90s and early 2000s, Cedric last graced the prime time television scene back in 2002 on the sketch comedy series “Cedric the Entertainer Presents,” along with fellow “Harvey Show” co-star Wendy Raquel Robinson.
What do you think of Cedric’s upcoming show? Will you be tuning in to watch it?
