On the eve of what would have been Tupac Amaru Shakur’s 40th birthday, Dexter Isaac says he shot the former Death Row Record superstar in 1994 inside of Quad Studios in New York after being paid $2,500 by James “Jimmy Henchman” Rosemond, AllHipHop.com reports.
Isaac, a former friend and associate of Rosemond, is currently serving a life sentence for murder, robbery and a multiplicity of other felonious transgressions. He confessed to his involvement in the November 30, 1994, shooting of Shakur to AllHipHop.com, after Rosemond identified him in a statement related to his own indictment for dealing numerous kilos of cocaine.
“I want to apologize to [Tupac Shakur’s] family and for the mistake I did for that sucker [Rosemond],” Dexter Isaac told AllHipHop.com from prison. “I am trying to clean it up to give [Tupac’s and Biggie’s] mothers some closure.”
While Tupac’s mother, Afeni, may appreciate the gesture 17 years later, the mothers of the two iconic rappers won’t receive full closure — and the souls of Tupac and Christopher “Notorious BIG” Wallace won’t fully rest in peace — until the conspirators and triggermen responsible for taking the rappers’ lives are identified, caught and brought to justice.
Isaac, who is also from Brooklyn, has long been suspected of being involved in the Quad shooting of Tupac, along with an associate named Spencer “Scooter” Bowens, who is also serving a life sentence. Moreover, Isaac claims to be in possession of Tupac’s jewelry that was stolen that night after he was shot.
As for Rosemond, the man who allegedly hired Isaac to ambush an unwitting Tupac on the day that initiated the deadly East Coast-West Coast rap war, he is currently on the run from Federal officials. Tupac swore that Diddy, then called “Puffy” and “Puff Daddy,” along with Biggie, set him up.
“If the government is relying on informants like Winston “Winnie” Harris, a convicted drug dealer and Jamaican deportee, who came to me and motioned via hand signal that he was forced to wear a wire and begged me to skip town or Dexter Isaac, who is serving life in prison plus 30 years, then I’m sure I will not be offered a fair trial,”Rosemond said in a statement released to AllHipHop.com in May 2011.
Isaac reportedly said he decided to confess to the robberies to prove Rosemond’s involvement, in addition to clearing his conscious for the shooting. He added, however, he was comfortable going on record related to the robbery and shooting since the statute of limitations had expired. Legally, no one can be prosecuted for the assault at this time.
