5 Black Celebrities Who Know the Pain of Falling Off the Weight-Loss Wagon on Thanksgiving

American Idol winner Jordin Sparks dropped 30+ pounds by paying attention to portion sizes and exercising daily. Though she does have a trainer who helps her stay on task, one of Jordin’s favorite ways to get her metabolism working harder is Zumba classes.

Jordin says it took her awhile to find an eating plan she could stick with–she even tried going vegetarian. “I smelled a steak and was, like, ‘I can’t do this!” she said of the short-lived meatless diet. She also tried more drastic methods like the infamous Master Cleanse that helped Beyonce shed 20 pounds for her role in Dreamgirls. “I lasted a day,” Jordin said of the no-food juice fast.  She settled for a plan that limits portion sizes, but doesn’t completely ex out the foods she loves.

Although she’s getting a lot of attention for her new slimmer figure, Jordin wasn’t ashamed of her “before” body. “I definitely didn’t want to lose my curves,” she said. Her focus is on being fit, not just shedding fat. “I’ve always felt cute, but now I feel sexier.”
