“I had no idea so many people were watching,” she said of the attention her weight loss has brought her.
“Being somebody who didn’t get that kind of attention and then now, all of a sudden, it’s magnified. So a lot of times I don’t like to think about it because then it adds all the pressure,” she said.
When she first began dropping the pounds, Jennifer said it took her a while to hit her that there had been a major change in her life. “My mind has not caught up yet. It’s like a mental process as well as a physical change,” Hudson said in the first few months with her thinner self. “My assistant and I will go shopping and I’m picking up the extra larges or the bigger sizes and he’s like, you don’t know your size.”
Jennifer says that when she was growing up on the South Side of Chicago, she did not see herself as being overweight.
“This is normal where I come from,” Hudson said. “I didn’t even know I was overweight until I was in Hollywood somewhere on the red carpet and the lady was like, how does it feel to be a big girl. And I’m like, ‘Who’s she talkin’ to? It never dawned on me before.’ ”
Jennifer said it was her young son who motivated her to want to live a healthier lifestyle–not the notorious pressure in Hollywood to be thin.
“Being in Hollywood (the weight) didn’t bother me because I felt like I was different, I stood out,” Hudson said. “I never thought I couldn’t lose the weight. It’s just that I felt comfortable with the way I was.”
