Robert Griffin Beats Andrew Luck in Heisman Race; 4 Black Quarterbacks Who Won the Heisman Trophy

Robert Griffin of Baylor University shocked the sports world by beating out Andrew Luck to capture the Heisman Trophy. While Luck is projected to be the top pick in the 2012 NFL draft, Griffin’s consistency impressed Heisman Trophy voters. Griffin passed for 36 touchdowns and rushed for nine touchdowns during the 2011 season.

Griffin, who has one more year of eligibility remaining, will likely forgo his senior season and enter the 2011 NFL draft. He has already received a degree in political science and is working on his master’s degree.


Griffin becomes just the fifth black quarterback to win the Heisman Trophy in 77 years. Here are the four black quarterbacks who won NCAA’s most prestigious football award. –amir shaw
