3. Without giving too much away, can you give one or two lessons that you learned during your career in nonprofit and business that has catapulted you to the heights you now enjoy?
I have learned that the greatest among you is your servant. I sincerely believe that when you win the hearts and minds of others you will never write a check that says insufficient funds. I learned that we all have a moral obligation to teach, train and inspire others to greatness. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said (paraphrasing) “It doesn’t take a college degree to serve; you don’t have to make your subject and verb agree — you just need a heart full of love.” I encourage others to be servant leaders and you will be catapulted to levels of success that you never imagined.
I also learned that you must not negate the power of networking. When you befriend others, you are afforded the experiences they bring to the relationship. Networking gives you a greater platform to share your aspirations. In the book “Who Moved My Nuts? MyMy realized that she could not acquire new nuts by herself and that she needed the support of others. She convened a master mind group of people with various skills and experiences. I am excited when others share with me their accomplishments because I have the opportunity to take their best practices and grow.
