Misty Copeland
Copeland began ballet at 13 and within three months was already en pointe. At age 15, after winning the Spotlight competition in L.A., she was named the best young dancer in the area. In 2001, she joined the American Ballet Theatre and later became the company’s first black soloist in 20 years. Copeland, although tremendously dedicated to her dance career, still reaches out to youth through the Boys & Girls Club. She will be inducted into the Dance Hall of Fame this spring.
