Trayvon Martin's Mother Releases Mother's Day Message

The grieving mother of Trayvon Martin has released a special Mother’s Day message hoping to bring awareness to a worthy cause. Sybrina Fulton who’s remained resolute in press conferences and interviews about the unarmed shooting death of her 17-year-old son, is asking for parents to lobby for a re-evaluation of Stand Your Ground laws. Stand Your Grand laws have garnered national attention in light of Martin’s death this past February.

In a heartfelt video message released today, Fulton addresses the camera directly and asks parents to reach out to their local legislators to demand a re-evaluation of local Stand Your Grand laws.

“This will be my first Mother’s Day without my son, Trayvon,” said Fulton. “I know it will be hard, but with my faith, family and the outpouring of national support, I will get through. […] I’m asking you to join Florida by calling upon the governor of your state to re-examine similar Stand Your Ground laws throughout the nation to keep our families safe.”

“On Sunday, I’m going to say a prayer for other mothers across America who share this unbearable pain. Just like me, 30,000 mothers lost their children this year to senseless gun violence,” she added.”Nobody can bring our children back.”
