It’s no secret that many basketball stars indulge in their fair share of trysts and flings, but it looks like one of NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal’s former mistresses is preparing to take him out of the bedroom and into a courtroom.
According to RadarOnline, O’Neal’s former mistress, Vanessa Lopez, recently filed a lawsuit against the former Laker for intentional infliction of emotional distress and assault, and now a trial date has been set for the suit. O’Neal tried to get the lawsuit dismissed, but was denied.
The trial date has been set for March 25, 2013, and the trial is expected to last 3-4 days. Both Lopez and O’Neal are expected to testify.
In her suit, Lopez claims that O’Neal began harassing her shortly after she told him she was pregnant and he accused her of sleeping with someone else. When she broke off her affair with O’Neal, he allegedly began threatening her.
Lopez was subsequently involved in a number of scary situations, including one involving a threatening O’Neal sent to his friend saying, “dis is da numba shut dat b*tch up!” to which his friend replied, “consider it done famo.”
Lopez claims that the friend then boarded a plane to Orlando, FL and texted her before calling her on her cell, sounding “menacing and sinister.”
Lopez also claims that O’Neal’s sisters also threatened her.
“Shaq wants to become the General Manager of the Orlando Magic and a public trial could very much harm his career and his legacy. Lopez’s lawyers feel that there is more than enough evidence to convince a jury of the allegations that she has made against him,” a source said.
“Vanessa wants the public to know exactly what Shaq did to her and she is looking forward to the day of taking the stand and telling a jury of her peers exactly what happened,” the insider said. “She wants him to be treated just like anyone else, it’s just about the truth, period.”
