At 94, former South African President Nelson Mandela continues to inspire the entire world.
People all over the world are celebrating Mandela’s 94th birthday, Wednesday, July 18, by donating 67 minutes of their time to help others, which is symbolic of the 67 years the legendary leader spent fighting injustice.
Although he has mostly retired from public life, his legacy and remarkable wisdom continue to influence people around the world today. Mandela’s grandson,Kweku Mandela appearing this morning on “CBS This Morning” with Gayle King and Charlie Rose, spoke eloquently and lovingly about his famous grandfather and his life today.
“Grandfather has a daily routine where he reads the five local newspapers in South Africa and takes visitors everyday … His physical body isn’t what it used to be, but his mind is still strong,” said the younger Mandela.
Since 2009, Mandela’s birthday has been celebrated as an international day of public good and service. -roz edward
