Rick Ross, Young Jeezy and the BET Hip Hop Awards Brawl

Rick Ross, Young Jeezy and the BET Hip Hop Awards Brawl

The Fights

Without any major incidents of violence during the prior tapings of the BET Hip Hop Awards, the show maintained a safety factor that eluded hip-hop awards ceremonies produced by The Source and Vibe magazine.

But this year’s fight between Rick Ross and Young Jeezy overshadowed a rather entertaining show. The two Def Jam artists have a history of beefs that stem from Ross’ 2010 release of the song ”B.M.F.” in which he gave a shout-out to Black Mafia Family leader Big Meech. Young Jeezy, who was once affiliated with members of BMF, took exception to the song and dissed Rick Ross on ”Death Before Dishonor.” But their beef died down publicly in the following years.

On the night of the BET Hip Hop Awards, the two confronted each other backstage, words were exchanged and a scuffle occurred before Atlanta police officers broke it up. The show was suspended for several minutes and there were reports of gunshots being fired in the parking lot.

Moments later, Ross’ artist, Gunplay, was jumped by members of 50 Cent’s crew. Both incidents were caught on tape, but no arrests were made.

Rick Ross and Young Jeezy, two of rap’s biggest stars, may have marred the last nationally televised event that solely honors the achievements in hip-hop.
